ASME SA179 is a specification under the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code that covers seamless cold-drawn low-carbon steel tubes designed for heat exchangers, condensers, and similar heat transfer applications. These tubes are widely used in industries such as power generation, petrochemical, and oil refining due to their excellent heat transfer properties and mechanical performance.

Chemical Composition:

• Carbon: 0.06–0.15%
• Manganese: 0.27–0.63%
• Phosphorus: ≤ 0.035%
• Sulfur: ≤ 0.035%
• Silicon: 0.10–0.35%

Mechanical Properties:

• Tensile Strength: 45,000–70,000 psi (310–480 MPa).
• Yield Strength: 25,000 psi (172 MPa).
• Elongation: Minimum of 30% in 8 inches (200 mm) of gauge length.
• Hardness: Relatively low, contributing to its good formability and resilience in heat transfer applications.
