Paper-making Wastewater Flocculant Polymer PAM Polyacrylamide
Polyacrylamide (PAM) plays an important role in treating paper mill
wastewater:
Flocculation and Sedimentation
• In paper mill wastewater, which contains a variety of suspended
solids such as fibers, fillers, and residual chemicals, PAM can
neutralize the electrical charges on the surface of these suspended
particles. This causes the particles to aggregate and form larger
flocs.
• These flocs can then settle more easily under the influence of
gravity. As a result, it significantly improves the separation of
solid and liquid phases, reducing the turbidity and the amount of
suspended solids in the wastewater.
Sludge Dewatering
• The sludge produced during the treatment of paper mill wastewater
has a high water content. PAM can be added to the sludge to enhance
the dewatering process.
• It helps to bind water molecules in the sludge and form a more
porous structure. This allows water to be removed more efficiently
through mechanical means such as filtration or centrifugation,
reducing the volume of sludge and making its final disposal more
convenient
