1. Basic introduction

446 stainless steel is a high chromium ferritic stainless steel (chromium content of about 23-30%), with excellent high temperature oxidation resistance, corrosion resistance and good mechanical properties. Because of its high chromium content, it is especially suitable for high temperature vulcanization and oxidation environment, but its toughness is low, and it should be avoided in low temperature or impact environment.

3. Main features

• High temperature oxidation resistance: can be used continuously below 1100°C, high temperature oxidation resistance is better than 304/316 stainless steel.
• Corrosion resistance: It has good resistance to nitric acid, organic acid and vulcanization environment, but it is not as resistant to chloride corrosion as austenitic stainless steel.
• Vulcanization resistance: Suitable for sulfur-containing fuel combustion environment (such as boilers, incinerators).
• Disadvantages: low temperature brittleness (avoid using below 0°C), poor welding performance, need to control the heat input.

7. Precautions

• Welding: A low heat input process, such as TIG welding, is required and preheated to 150-200°C to reduce the risk of cracking.
• Processing: Annealing (780-850°C) is recommended after cold forming to restore corrosion resistance.
• Avoid: chloride-containing solution and low temperature impact on the environment.
