Nickel 205 alloy, known for its excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance, is a wrought nickel alloy with a composition of at least 99% nickel . It is ferromagnetic below 360°C (680°F) and contains small additions of aluminum and titanium, which contribute to its mechanical and electrical properties . The alloy is characterized by its high electrical and thermal conductivity, making it suitable for electrical components and heat exchangers . It exhibits good resistance to many corrosives, particularly hydroxides, and performs well in both reducing and oxidizing environments .
Key applications of Nickel 205 include magnetostrictive transducers, mechanical supports, transistor housings, battery cases, lead wires, and anodes and grids of electronic valves . It is also used in chemical processing for handling acids, alkalis, and chemicals, as well as in marine applications where resistance to seawater and brine solutions is required . The alloy's high resistance to caustic alkalis makes it outstanding for use up to and including the molten state .
