Samarium cobalt magnet is a rare earth magnet. It is a kind of magnet made of samarium, cobalt and other rare earth metal materials. Samarium cobalt magnet was developed in 1970. Samarium cobalt magnet is a strong magnetic magnet with high magnetic energy product (BHmax), high coercivity, fragility and easy cracking. The large magnetic energy products of samarium cobalt magnets range from 9 MGOe to 31 MGOe. Samarium cobalt magnets have two composition ratios: (samarium: cobalt)1:5 and 2:17. For example, the 2:17 alloy has a large magnetic energy product of 26 MGOe, a coercivity of 9750 Oersted, a Curie temperature of 825°C and a high operating temperature of 350°C.

Samarium cobalt permanent magnets are mainly made of rare earth elements such as samarium and cobalt, which are mainly divided into the first generation SmCo5(type 1:5) and the second generation Sm2Co17(type 2:17). Take the second generation of samarium-cobalt permanent magnet as an example, in which cobalt accounts for 48%-52%. The characteristics of samarium-samarium-cobalt permanent magnet are high magnetic properties, and its high temperature resistance is better than that of NdFeb permanent magnet. However, due to the high content of cobalt and its higher cost than neodymium, its downstream applications are relatively few, mainly in defense, aerospace, communications technology and other fields.
