In a modern corrugated board system, the paper rolls are automatically replaced by a splicing device (also called a splicer). The name comes from the English word "to splice," meaning "join" or "splice" - a nautical term used to join ropes or for weaving eyelets.
While the old reel runs on one arm of the unreel, the new reel is ready for replacement.
