HL-144 Wire Mesh Demister Wave Pattern Liquid Flow Guiding Effect

There are many types of mesh pad demisters, including flat type, oblique type, etc.. Usually the mesh pad thickness for flat type demister is 100mm or 150mm. With simple structure, it suits for low velocity, low mist rate gas flow. Re-entrainment easily happen when the gas velocity is too high. While the oblique type (sometimes also shown as wave shape demister) has flow guiding effect on the captured liquid droplet, leaving less liquid droplets on the downside of the mesh pad. So the oblique type demister has less resistance to the passing gas flow, and is a little harder to cause re-entrainment. It allows somehow higher velocity and mist content.

The mesh pad demister is mainly constructed by wire mesh pad and grids. The pad consists multiple layers of fabric-knitted from metals and synthetic fiber monofilament chosen to suit the particular duty requirements. After knitting each layer is crimped and then converted into desired size or shape or pads. The pads are not entirely rigid and generally supported by open grid structure. The grids usually adopt stainless steel 25mm*3mm flat bars and Φ6mm round rods. Sometimes 25*10mm PP grids and special PTFE grids are also used.

When Mesh Pad Demister should be replaced?

Due to the fact that the mesh pad demister is normally installed in a major process line, it is almost impossible to replace them while the lines are in operation. Therefore, for economy purpose, it is important to have them replaced during annual or periodic shut-down period. For these reasons, the followings are presented for the user’s consideration.

When the thickness has changed.

When the tightness of each pad sections has changed.

When the corrosion of the wire is severely noticed.

When the entrained mist or dust gives pressure drop hazard.

Others as having been experienced by maintenance engineers.
