How It Works:


Ultrasonic cleaners are used in a wide range of applications to remove virtually any soil or contamination by using the power of cavitation action. This is the term used to describe the implosion of billions of minute bubbles contacting iPad PCB components and surfaces. The bubbles are created by generator-powered ultrasonic transducers bonded to an ultrasonic cleaning tank and typically operate at an ultrasonic frequency of 37 to 42 kHz (37,000 to 42,000 cycles per second).

When the bubbles implode contaminants are quickly and safely removed from PCB surfaces without damaging delicate parts. So tiny are the bubbles that they penetrate minute cracks, crevices and blind holes that might lodge dried residue, dust and dirt particles. The ultrasonic PCB cleaning system will complete the job in as little as 10 to 15 minutes. And it will do it in an environmentally friendly manner because the ultrasonic circuit board cleaning solution formula is a biodegradable concentrate that minimizes disposal problems.


Do Not Worry About Those Solder Joints


It might seem that the vibration that is used in ultrasonics might damage the very delicate solder joints that are present in electronics. Fortunately, that is not how ultrasonics clean.

Ultrasonic cleaners work by creating small bubbles that appear and collapse over and over again. This process is called cavitation. Since the bubbles are what are doing the cleaning, the solder joints are safe.

A chemical used during soldering, called flux, is cleaned off of motherboards by ultrasonics at their manufacturers.


The Things You Should Be Careful:

  • The solvent must be nonflammable. DO NOT USE FLAMMABLE SOLVENTS IN ULTRASONIC CLEANERS due to the risk of fire.

  • It should be ozone-safe and environmentally benign;

  • It must have manageable toxicity ratings;

  • Unless your cleaning system has refrigeration, the solvent must have a higher boiling point, usually between roughly 100 degree C or higher;

  • The component chemistries should not separate when heated (which is called "azeotropic" behavior in the chemical world),

  • The chemistry should not foam when agitated, and...

  • It should be recyclable and disposable using standard industrial processes.
