Sand Preparation

The types of foundry sand can be divided into quartz sand, magnesium sand, olivine sand, zircon sand, lime stone sand, clay sand, water glass sand, resin sand, oil sand and so on.

In order to obtain high quality castings and good technical and economic effects, the sand shall have the following properties when mixed in a certain proportion:

1. Good molding;

2. Enough strength;

3. A certain degree of permeability;

4. Less hygroscopic;

5. Lower gas output;

6. High refractoriness;

7. Good yield, collapsibility and durability

The properties of the foundry sand have an important influence on the quality of the castings. The properties of sand include: water, compactness, permeability, deformation, crushing index, effective clay content, effective coal powder content, etc.
