Composition

Diesel generator set consists of diesel engine, AC synchronous generator, control panel, chassis, coupling, radiator, fuel tank, etc. Some are also equipped with a muffler and a cover.

The shafts of the diesel engine and the generator are directly connected. Usually the main shaft is also equipped with a flywheel to increase the smoothness of operation. Diesel generator sets are generally assembled by manufacturers as complete sets and supplied; some are based on the power load and its characteristics, after determining the capacity and number of generators, then select the diesel engine to drive the generator.

The equipment of the fuel system and the starting air system can be individually configured for each unit, or multiple units can be configured collectively.

Classification

There are many types of diesel generator sets, mainly in the following eight categories

(1) According to the fuel classification of the engine; it can be divided into diesel generator sets and composite fuel generator sets

(2) Classified according to speed; can be divided into high-speed, medium-speed and low-speed diesel generator sets

(3) Classified according to the conditions of use: can be divided into land-use, marine, trailer-type and automobile-type diesel generator sets. Among them, land-use generator sets: including mobile and stationary. Land-use units can be divided into four types: ordinary type, automatic type, low-noise type, and low-noise automatic type.

(4) According to generator output voltage and frequency classification: it can be divided into AC generator set and DC generator set. Among them, AC generator set; including intermediate frequency 40HZ and power frequency 50HZ. The nominal voltage of 50HZ power frequency medium and small generator sets is generally 400V; the nominal voltage of large generators is generally 6.3~10.5kV.

(5) According to the excitation mode of the synchronous generator, it can be divided into rotating AC exciter and static exciter.

1) Rotating AC exciter excitation system, including AC exciter static rectifier excitation system and then brushless excitation system

2) Static exciter excitation system, including voltage source static exciter excitation system, AC side series composite voltage source static exciter excitation system and harmonic (or fundamental) auxiliary winding excitation system
