We had a cheap plastic carafe with one of those tops that plugs like a lever; I didn't like it that much. Moreover, it was only about 30 ounces or so with a thin mouth to make refills a hassle. This carafe is beautiful, made of thick walled glass, holds 55 ounces, and what I love best about it is the top plug doesn't have to be removed when you pour. Pouring is very easy. This is a beautiful container. I find drinking more water is easy when the container is pretty. It's also easy to clean. The pour spout is great--no spilling. One of the things I like best is how a few lemon slices look floating in the water. Very modern looking, quite useful, and would be wonderful on a tray in a guest room beside the bed. I keep mine on my desk, and I drink water all day long, now, instead of tea or coffee. ----By Edward
