Utilities around the globe face regular theft of their electric service. In addition to being against the law, energy theft adds an additional cost burden that utilities pass on to consumers by increasing rates. It is estimated that as much as USD6 billion per year is lost by American utilities alone.
Present methods of detecting electricity theft utilize anti-tampering devices installed on or around an electric meter, combined with software operating on the company' computer system. These methods rely heavily on the billing system and involve comparing past consumption patterns with more recent consumption patterns. However, most anti-tampering methods are indirect and imprecise. Detection, investigation and quantification of electricity theft are difficult at best and typically require a lot of guesswork. Until now, there has been no way to directly detect tampering between the electric meter and the step-down transformer on a "eal-time" basis.
Sanneng' patented advanced anti-tampering system provides utilities with an accurate, scientific method to cost-effectively manage the problem of electricity theft. Sanneng' system eliminates the guesswork and accurately detects and documents any theft of electricity between step-down transformers and electric meters.
How it works
Sanneng' anti-tampering system consists of wireless Radio Frequency (RF) transmitters, a wireless CPU module, and a server to manage two-way communication and monitor key data. Three individual transmitters monitor electricity consumption on the high-voltage side of the transformer. A CPU module, fitted alongside the electric meter, continually compares consumption data from the high-voltage lines and from the electric meter. The CPU module alerts the utility if consumption figures differ by a preset amount of 30 percent. The CPU module uses a concealed antenna, and can detect electric meter tampering as well.
